Numerical simulation performed using Electro Magnetica Numerica to investigate the refection characteristics of electromagnetic wave from a fighter body. The target body is provided with a CAD data (STL) and the adaptive mesh is automatically generated. Fine mesh is generated only on the necessary area so the total computation is very effective. This is one of the greatest merits of the software.

The 3D view of the fighter body used for numerical simulation is shown in the left side figure. The materials should be different in place to place, however, the target model is assumed to be a perfect conducting materials in the simulation, because of the lack of information. The three poles, coloured in red, yellow and green are specified to be x, y and z axis, respectively. The fighter is directed in the negative of z-axis in the case.

In the model of EM, an impulsive electromagnetic radiation is applied to the target figher body in z direction. You can choose any direction for wave application as you like.

EM can evaluate far field data at the specified frequency.  In order to evaluate the data the interested frequencies may be specified at the beginning of the simulation. After enough time simulation, you can evaluate the far field data such as RCS at the specified frequencies. The 3D view of the evaluated data are shown in the bottom of this page. The figures show 3.0 GHz and 1.0GHz far field RCS.

Mesh generation of such a complex shaped model is usually not an easy task. But EM can simulate with adaptive mesh with just one click. Very easy.
